Results

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball split a pair of non-conference contests this Saturday at Springfield College. The Golden Eagles took down Hunter College 3-0 before falling to #3 Springfield College 3-0 in the nightcap.

Top performers
  • Junior Mark Williams led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills while adding four digs 

  • Freshman Luke MacPherson finished with 10 kills with three digs

  • Middle Quinn Foglia recorded seven kills on nine attempts with five blocks

  • Setter CJ Johnson dished a match-best 40 assists with four blocks

  • David Lou and Matissee Lee-Maarek led the Hawks with seven kills apiece with setter Cooper Moran finishing with 15 assists 

How it happened
  • The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as five, 15-10, in the opening frame before Hunter had a string of attack errors that led to an 18-16 advantage for St. Joseph's. The set was played closely in the latter points before a kill from MacPherson secured the 25-23 win

  • SJLI broke a 5-5 stalemate in set two with five straight points in their favor as they kept Hunter at arm's distance for the 25-19 win 

  • St. Joseph's led wire-to-wire in set three guided by a seven-point kill performance by Mark Williams as the Golden Eagles went on to claim the set 25-15 to complete the 3-0 sweep

Top performers
  • Williams led the Golden Eagles once again this time with six kills 

  • MacPherson and senior Tyler Anderson both finished with five kills apiece

  • Johnson tossed 18 assists with a kill and an assist

  • Noah Weislo led the Pride with 11 kills with Jarret Anderson pitching in with 10 kills with five aces

How it happened
  • Tied at seven in the first set, Springfield went on a 6-1 run to jump ahead 13-8. The Golden Eagles inched to within two, 19-17, but the Pride ultimately came away with a 25-18 win

  • Springfield jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in set two and did not let the Golden Eagles to within five points the entire frame cruising to a 25-15 victory

  • St. Joseph's held a slight 10-9 lead in the third set, but six unanswered points in favor of Springfield put the hosts ahead 14-10 before going on to take the set and ultimately the match 25-16 

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center when they host Arcadia University on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 PM.
