Results

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball picked up a non-conference win over #14 Arcadia University in a five-set thriller in the Danzi Center on Wednesday evening.

Top performers
  • Junior Mark Williams led all players with a career-best 19 kills while hitting at a .357 clip. The outside hitter added nine digs three blocks and a pair of aces 

  • Senior Tyler Anderson pitched in with 15 kills and a game-best .480 hitting percentage

  • Freshman Luke MacPherson finished with a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs

  • Middle Pat Stevenson recorded a career-high 11 blocks (3 BS, 8 BA)

  • Setter CJ Johnson dished a match-best 51 assists with a season-high five blocks

  • Danny Gonzalez led the Knights with 16 kills and finished with 10 digs. Setter Vaughn McConnell tossed 47 assists and picked up a game-high 12 digs

How it happened
  • The two teams were locked in a 14-14 stalemate in set one before back-to-back points went in favor of the Knights and gave them a lead they would hold onto for a 25-21 win

  • Led by a seven-kill performance by Williams, SJLI bounced back with a 25-18 victory in set two and evened the match at one set apiece

  • After exchanging points to open set three, the teams were knotted at nine before the Golden Eagles put up six unanswered points and cruised to a 25-16 victory

  • Arcadia would not go down quietly as they took advantage of St. Joseph's worst team-hitting percentage of .194 for a 25-18 win in set four pushing the game to a decisive fifth set

  • The Golden Eagles led wire to wire in the final set claiming five straight points to end it with a 15-8 win

  • The Golden Eagles hit .351 as a team while holding the Knights to just .187

  • At the net, SJLI put up a season-high 16 total blocks with Arcadia finishing with seven

The Golden Eagles open up Skyline Conference action on Sunday, March 5 when they travel to Yeshiva University to face the Maccabees and New Jersey City University.
