The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team fell short in a five-set non-conference contest with #8 New York University on Tuesday evening.

Top performers
  • Junior Mark Williams led the Golden Eagles with 15 kills while picking up seven digs and a pair of blocks

  • Senior Tyler Anderson pitched in with 12 kills with a team-best 14 digs and had a hand on five blocks

  • Middle Quinn Foglia was 6-for-12 at the net with six blocks 

  • Setter CJ Johnson dished 33 assists with seven digs and four kills

  • NYU's Gautham Dasari knocked down a game-high 24 kills with Luke Boyer adding 10 kills with seven digs

How it happened
  • The Golden Eagles were first to reach 20 in set one and three unanswered points went in favor of the visitors for a 22-17 advantage. St. Joseph's went on to take the set one 25-19

  • SJLI took a 2-0 lead in the match holding the Violets to a -.059 hitting percentage in set two en route to a 25-17 win

  • A closely played third set saw the Golden Eagles trailing but just one, 15-14, before a 4-0 NYU run put the Violets ahead 19-14 and they would go on to take the set 25-18

  • NYU put together their best performance of the night in set four hitting .500 as a team to pick up the set 25-17. Dasari recorded seven kills and the Violets held SJLI to just eight kills to even the match at 2 games apiece

  • After trailing 4-1 early in the deciding fifth set, the Golden Eagles inched to within one, 7-6, just before the teams switched sides at eight. The Violets got back-for-back kills from Dasari and Ry Kagan to jump ahead 9-6 and they would eventually go on to secure the match with 15-10 win

  • The Golden Eagles hit .160 as a team while the Violets finished with a .197 hitting percentage

  • At the net, SJLI put up 13 total blocks with NYU finishing with 7.5

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology on Thursday, March 9 at 7:00 pm.
