The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball suffered a 3-1 non-conference loss to the Wentworth Institute of Technology in the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.

Top performers
  • Senior Tyler Anderson paced the Golden Eagles with 14 kills with five digs and a pair of blocks

  • Freshman Luke MacPherson added eight kills with a match-high 15 digs

  • Middle Pat Stevenson finished with a match-best eight blocks

  • Setter CJ Johnson dished 39 assists with five digs and four blocks

  • WIT's Jacob LaBouliere knocked down a game-high 21 kills hitting at a .459 clip with Sam Etter adding 18 kills

How it happened
  • Tied at 8 in the opening set, Wentworth went on a 5-0 run to jump ahead 13-8. The Leopards extended their lead later in the set, 23-15, before claiming a 25-20 win

  • Neither side led by more than three through the first portion of set two. Five straight points in favor of the Golden Eagles put the hosts ahead 23-18 before evening the match at one set apiece with a 25-20 win

  • A closely played third set saw both teams knock down 12 kills. WIT led by as many as six, 20-14, but St. Joseph's chipped away and a kill from Quinn Foglia cut the deficit to just one, 24-23, but a kill from LaBouliere secured the 25-23 Leopard win

  • The Golden Eagles appeared to lose steam in set four producing their lowest hitting percentage, .120, of the night. Wentworth jumped to a 10-5 lead and would go on to cruise to a 25-16 victory

  • The Golden Eagles hit .186 as a team while the Leopards finished with a .306 hitting percentage

  • Defensively, Wentworth held a slight 40-39 edge in digs while SJLI put up 11 total blocks with WIT finishing with 6

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center when they resume Skyline Conference action and host the College of Mt. St. Vincent and SUNY Purchase on Saturday, March 11 at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, respectively.
