The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team saw their season end with a 3-1 loss to #4 Messiah University in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament on Friday afternoon. 

Top Performers
  • Junior Mark Williams paced the Golden Eagles with a team-best 14 kills while adding four digs 

  • Freshman Luke MacPherson and senior Quinn Foglia pitched in with eight kills apiece

  • Senior Tyler Anderson finished with seven kills and a team-best 12 digs

  • Junior CJ Johnson tossed 38 assists and added five kills, two blocks, and two digs

How it happened:
  • Tied at 16 in set one, the Golden Eagles benefited from five consecutive Falcon errors to pull ahead 21-16. Messiah inched back to within two, 23-21, but a Falcon service error and a kill from Anderson clinched the 25-21 win for a 1-0 match lead

  • Messiah rebounded in set two hitting their best of the match at .516 with 19 kills out of 31 attempts en route to a 25-19 win to even the match at one win apiece

  • St. Joseph's led early in the third frame 10-5, but the Falcons went on a 10-1 run to flip the score in their favor 15-11. Later in the set, a kill from Williams would knot the score at 20, but Messiah closed the set with five unanswered points for the 25-20 win

  • The Golden Eagles got to within two, 23-21, late in set four but the two sides would exchange points resulting in a 25-22 set win for Messiah

  • Messiah tallied 60 kills compared to St. Joseph's 46

  • The Falcons finished with eight service aces to the Golden Eagles' one
