Softball Topples CMSV in Skyline Doubleheader

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team toppled the College of Mount St. Vincent, 14-3 and 11-1, in a doubleheader at SJC Softball Stadium on Monday afternoon.

With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 7-1 overall on the year and 5-1 in Skyline Conference play as the Dolphins slip to 1-3 and 1-2, respectively.

Only the first contest of Monday's doubleheader counted towards the teams' Skyline Conference records. The second game was designated as a non-conference contest.

Game 1: SJC 14, CMSV 3
Senior Lindsay Ness (4-for-5, 4 RBIs) opened the scoring in the first inning when her two-RBI double to left center scored freshman Laren Crawford (2-for-5, 1 RBI) and junior Jenna DeFina (1-for-5, 1 RBI).

In the second, Crawford reached first on an error by the Dolphins' right fielder, enabling DeFina and sophomore Emily Bazarewski (1-for-2) to score and double SJC's lead (4-0).

CMSV tallied three runs in the bottom of the third (4-3), but an immediate SJC response in the top of the fourth provided four runs (7-3).

Up 10-3 heading into the seventh, St. Joseph's tallied four more runs in the top of the seventh--the highlight of which was an RBI single to short off the bat of junior Jenna Kreiling (2-for-3, 2 RBIs)--to cap the scoring (14-3).

Junior Patricia McGloin tossed a complete game, striking out nine batters and allowing two earned runs for her third win of the season (3-1).

Game 2: SJC 11, CMSV 1 (6 innings)
Picking up where they left off in Game 1, SJC took an early lead in Game 2 when DeFina (2-for-5) scored off an error by the CMSV pitcher and freshman Madison DiSalvo (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) drove Crawford (1-for-5) in with a ground-out to short (2-0) in the first inning.

The Dolphins brought a run back in the bottom of the third, but a three-run fourth for St. Joseph's extended their lead to four runs (5-1).

Up 6-1 in the sixth inning, DiSalvo kicked off a five-run sixth inning when she scored Crawford with an RBI double up the middle (7-1). DiSalvo would later score on a passed ball (8-1), freshman Madison DiPalo (0-for-1) scored on an error by the second baseman (9-1), senior Kassandra Tibbetts (2-for-3) advanced home via a Bailey Rand (1-for-2, 1 RBI) single (10-1), and senior Paige Csikortos (0-for-1, 1 RBI) was credited with the final run of the afternoon when she scored off of freshman Samantha Dimezza's (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) RBI single to left (11-1).

Freshman Julia Ruocchio tossed all six innings for the Golden Eagles, striking out five batters and allowing one earned run for the second win of her collegiate career.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 11 when they visit Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm. Live links for both games available here at sjcgoldeneagles.com.
