Softball Sweeps Old Westbury with 18-4 Win on Monday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team completed a three-game sweep of SUNY Old Westbury with an 18-4 win at SJC Softball Stadium on Monday evening.

The win sees the Golden Eagles improve to 10-3 overall on the year and 8-3 in Skyline Conference play as the Panthers drop to 0-8 (0-8).

SJC was powered by senior Lindsey McKenna, who hit 4-for-4 with two triples, six RBIs and three runs. Senior Lindsay Ness (2-for-3) and junior Jenna Kreiling (1-for-2) were both credited with three RBIs each.

Junior hurler Patricia McGloin (5-2) tossed 4.0 innings, struck out three batters and allowed two earned runs in a winning effort. Freshman Julia Ruocchio struck out one batter in 1.0 inning.

Scoring early and often, SJC posted four runs in the first inning and then six in the second (10-0). McKenna's two-RBI triple to right center that scored graduate student Ashley Accardi and freshman Samantha Dimezza was the higlight of the frame.

Ness opened the scoring in the third with a two-RBI single through the right side (12-0), paving the way for McKenna to notch her second triple of the contest which tacked on three additional runs (15-0). Sophomore Emily Bazarewski scored McKenna with an RBI single up the middle, capping off the inning's scoring (16-0).

Both teams posted two runs apiece in the fourth (18-2) innning before Old Westbury finished off the evening's tallies with a pair of runs in the fifth (18-4).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, May 1 when they host St. Joseph's (Brkln) for a Skyline Conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm. A limited amount of spectators will be allowed on-site. More information here.
