Softball Drops Skyline Doubleheader to Mt. St. Mary

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference contests, 5-1 and 7-6 to Mount St. Mary College in a home doubleheader on Friday evening.

The losses send the Golden Eagles to 12-7 overall on the year and 10-6 in conference play as the Knights improve to 15-9 and 12-7.

Game 1: MSMC 5, SJC 1
A tough start for the Golden Eagles saw them fall behind 3-0 in the first inning and then 5-0 midway through the second inning.

Patricia McGloin (1-for-3) would put the hosts on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when she advanced home following Jenna DeFina's (1-for-1) bunt, but it would be the only offense the Golden Eagles could muster in the contest.

McGloin took the loss for SJC on the mound. The hurler struck out two and allowed four earned runs in a complete-game effort.

Game 2: MSMC 7, SJCLI 6
The Knights jumped out to an early lead, scoring once in the second inning and then six times in the third to pull ahead 7-0.

SJC brought one back in the bottom of the fourth before posting four in the fifth to cut the deficit to two runs (7-5). Samantha Dimezza's (1-for-4) RBI single to shortstop that scored Lauren Crawford (2-for-4) was the fourth run in that inning.

Crawford went on to score Emily Bazarewski (1-for-3) with an RBI single to right center in the sixth inning (7-6), but SJC's comeback ended there.

Julia Ruocchio tossed 2.2 innings and took the loss for SJC. McGloin tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, May 9 when they visit the Knights for the second half of the four-game series beginning at 11:00 am.
