Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team was eliminated from the 2021 Skyline Conference Championship tournament following a pair of losses on Friday afternoon.
Third-seeded SJC was defeated, 3-0, by second-seeded Manhattanville in Game 2 of the tournament and later dropped a 3-1 decision to fourth-seeded Mt. St. Mary in Game 3.
The Golden Eagles wrap their season with a 13-10 overall record. Manhattanville advances to face top-seed and host Farmingdale State in Game 4 tomorrow afternoon. Mt. St. Mary will play the loser in Game 5.
Game 2: M'Ville 3, SJC 0
The Valiants opened the scoring in the second inning when Amaya Esparza (1-for-3) doubled to center field, scoring Giovanna Liggett (2-for-3) in the process (1-0).
Sarah Harker (2-for-3) doubled Manhattanville's lead in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle (2-0), and Liggett tallied the contest's final run later in the inning when she scored Harker with a single up the middle of her own (3-0).
Junior hurler Patricia McGloin (0-for-3) struck out two and allowed three earned runs in a losing effort for Golden Eagles. Senior Kasaandra Tibbetts (1-for-3) registered SJC's only hit in the contest when she recorded a single to center field in the top of the sixth.
Game 3: MSMC 3, SJC 1
The Golden Eagles went ahead early (1-0) when freshman Lauren Crawford (1-for-3) singled to left field in the bottom of the first, scoring junior Jenna DeFina (1-for-2).
The Knights responded in the top of the second when Alicia Killeen (1-for-4) scored two runs with a double to left center (2-1). The final run would come in the top of the fifth when Samantha Bendig (1-for-2) solo homered down the left field line (3-1).
McGloin got the start again on the mound for SJC, this time striking out three and allowing three earned runs. The junior finishes the season with an 8-6 record.
