New Paltz, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests, 8-0 and 13-1, to SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, NY on Wednesday afternoon.
The losses send the Golden Eagles to 3-6 overall on the year as the Hawks improve to 11-7.
Game 1: NPU 8, SJC 0 (5 innings)
New Paltz took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first but was held scoreless by SJC through the next two innings.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Hawks posted six runs, a stretch capped off by Jillian Shelbourn's (1-for-3) two-RBI single to right field (8-0).
Emily Fenezia (1-for-2) and Jenna Kreiling (1-for-2) were credited with SJC's two hits in the contest.
Olivia Verderosa (1-1) started for St. Joseph's and struck out one batter in 3.1 innings of work. Julia Ruocchio (0-for-2) secured the last two outs of the fourth inning.
Game 2: NPU 13, SJC 1 (5 innings)
New Paltz picked up where they left off, scoring four runs in the first inning and six in the second inning (10-0).
Down 11-0 in the fourth inning, Riley Lim-Ellis (1-for-2) singled to right field and scored Ruocchio (0-for-1) for SJC's only run of the game (11-1).
The Hawks went for two more runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to a 13-1 win.
Ruocchio (1-2) tossed 1.2 innings while Kate Kiernan and Verderosa (0-for-2) provided relief efforts.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they face the College of Mount St. Vincent at SJC Softball Stadium. Note: Mt. St. Vincent is the home team for this doubleheader.
