W. Lax Falls Short In Second Half Against Muhlenberg

Hilton Head, S.C. – The Golden Eagles (1-2) were defeated in the second game of their Hilton Head road trip against Muhlenberg College (2-0), 16-9. SJC will return home to Long Island breaking even with one win and one loss for the week.

Junior Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./ Centereach) initiated the scoring by placing the first two points on the board – SJC took the lead, only to fall short just after. The Mules came back to score three in a row within the next ten minutes.

By halftime, the Golden Eagles fell behind by a score of 7-3, but wouldn't go down without a fight. The Mules' goalkeeper was tested in the second half, making a total of seven saves and allowing another six goals by SJC.

Senior Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, N.Y./ Eastport- South Manor) scored the fourth goal for the team at the top of the second half, giving the team momentum and a push that drove them to score another within two minutes.

The Golden Eagles' scoring opportunities came few and far between, yet they took advantage up until the last seconds of play.  Senior Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y./ Islip) scored the final goal of the game with 12 seconds left on the clock, leaving SJC in a defeat of 16-9.

If Mother Nature allows it, the Golden Eagles will return home for a non-conference contest against SUNY Geneseo this Saturday at 11 a.m.
