Women's Lacrosse Powers Past Knights, 16-12

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team came away with a narrow 16-12 victory on the road against Mt. St. Mary College on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season and in conference play. The Knights fall to 1-4 overall, 1-4 Skyline.

Senior Tori Staker paced the Golden Eagles with seven points on five goals and two assists. The midfielder posted a game-best 12 draw controls and seven ground balls.

Sophomore Amanda Gennardo also pitched in with five goals as well as seven ground balls. Sophomore Sydney Cullen rounded out the top scorers with three goals.

MSMC's Megan Shalvey recorded five goals and two assists. Britany Dones added two goals with five Knights finishing with a goal apiece.

After trailing 4-0 to start the game, SJC's Cullen bookended a 6-0 run giving the Golden Eagles a 6-4 advantage midway through the frame. Back-to-back MSMC goals knotted the score at six, but three unanswered tallies from the visitors moved the score to 9-6. The Knights would manage to score with less than a minute left in the half sending the teams into the break at 9-7.

Mt. St. Mary struck first in the second half to inch within one, 9-8, but Staker and Melissa Newman went back-to-back providing SJC with some breathing room, 11-8. The Knights followed with two goals of their own, 11-10, but that would be as close as they would get as the Golden Eagles held on for the 16-12 win.

The Golden Eagles were dominant at the draw with a 21-9 advantage while outshooting the Knights 44-25.

SJC's Jillian Hummel finished her night with 10 saves with MSMC's Jackie Finkel recorded 17.

St. Joseph's returns to Danzi Stadium for the final home game of the regular season and hosts Manhattanville College. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
