Women's Lacrosse Falls to USMMA, 16-4

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team suffered a Skyline Conference defeat 16-4 at the hands of the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon.

The loss moves the Golden Eagles to 2-6 on the season and a 1-3 Skyline record. The Mariners improve to 7-3 overall, 3-0 Skyline.

SJC's Emily O'Mara led the Golden Eagles with two goals and an assist. Melissa Newman and Brooke Zecchini accounted for SJC's other two goals.

Alexandra Ehrhart collected a team-best three ground balls while causing a turnover.

USMMA's Jessie Wohner tallied a game-high nine goals and an assist. Julia Coughlin added five goals and an assist. Jaqui Sheedy led all players with nine draw controls and Jenna Turrentine picked up four ground balls.

SJC's goalie Jillian Hummel finished the day with 13 saves. USMMA's Jessica Gamsjager and Hope Germanakos recorded two and seven saves, respectively.

The Mariners outshot the Golden Eagles 35-17 and held a 13-11 edge in ground balls and 15-10 in caused turnovers.

The Golden Eagles resume Skyline Conference action on Tuesday, April 19 when they host Mt. St. Mary at 6:00 pm.
