Women's Swimming in 3rd Place First Day of Skyline Championships

Purchase, NY| Led by a pair of individual-event victories by sophomore Deirdre McCafferty on Saturday morning, the United States Merchant Marine Academy sits in first place after day one of the two-day, 2022 Skyline Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with a team total of 432 points.
Sarah Lawrence College (106) and St. Joseph's College-Long Island (104) sit two points apart for second and third-place standings, respectively.
McCafferty recorded a 22-second win in the 1,000-yard Freestyle (10:59.15), before earning a triumph one event later in the 200 Free (2:00.86).
USMMA also received individual event victories from sophomore Camden Martin (100 Back, 1:00.24), sophomore Emmy Higgins (100 Breast, 1:10.93), freshman Kara Davidson (200 Fly, 2:17.51), senior Lynden Massey (50 Free, 25.82) and senior Hannah Taylor (3-meter Diving, 365.00 -- 11-dive program). The Mariners' 200 Medley Relay team of sophomore Annie Hood, Higgins, junior Emma Cate Clarkson and Massey started the session with a winning time of 1:53.66.
Sarah Lawrence (2nd in 200 Medley Relay, 1:58.85) collected top-five finishes from senior Audrey De Szendeffy (1,000 Free, 11:52.23), classmate Drew Lei Alerta (100 Back, 1:01.30; 200 Fly, 2:28.39) and senior Claire Annunziati (100 Breast, 1:15.33).
St. Joseph's-Long Island's top individual finish came from sophomore Megan Skakandi, who registered a third-place time in the 100-yard Breaststroke of 1:14.56. Senior Marisa Tutone added a fourth-place, 1:04.46 time in the 100 Back.
Sunday marks the second and final day of competition in the Championship, with swimming events scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
