Volleyball Flies into Third Place as they Shutout Farmingdale Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. – Wednesday night wasn't your typical volleyball shutout. It was a hard-fought, close match but St. Joseph's (14-11, 4-2 Skyline) prevailed against Farmingdale (11-20, 6-1 Skyline) in all three sets. As a result, the Golden Eagles climbed into third in the Skyline Conference standings, right behind the Rams.

The Eagles never trailed in the first set, but Farmingdale kept the game close. Although they trailed by five twice, the Rams fought their way back, tying the set at 23. Tiffany Willms (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) put an end to Farmingdale's late run giving the Eagles a one game lead. The Eagles trailed once early in set two but led by as many as six. Once again, the Rams found their way back into the game late. They were down 23-22 before St. Joseph's closed the game out. In the third set, Farmingdale held the lead early, but the Lady Eagles would find their stride midway through the game and never look back, ending the set 25-21.

Taylor Ahmed (Farmingdale, N.Y./Sachem North) led the Eagles with 14 digs. Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) was the assist leader with 26 and Willms added 11 kills to give the Eagles a monumental road win as they continue to climb up the conference ladder.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Old Westbury, N.Y. to take on Skyline-foes, Maritime and Old Westbury, this Saturday starting at noon.
