Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Hunter College on Tuesday evening inside the Danzi Center. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 12-13 (5-1 Skyline) on the season, while the Hawks improve to 15-12 (5-1 CUNYAC).

After falling behind 6-3 in the first half, the Golden Eagles rallied for the next seven points to build a 10-6 lead. The Hawks pushed back and drew the frame back to within one point (14-13), but St. Joseph's did well to fend off the rally and take a 24-19 lead.

Nearly fumbling the advantage, the Golden Eagles allowed the Hawks to tie the match at 24, but a kill by senior Heather Ferchland followed by a Hunter attack error gave the hosts a 27-25 set victory.

A rejuvenated Hunter side jumped out to a big 12-4 lead in the second before cruising to a 25-14 win to tie the match at one set apiece. In the third, the Golden Eagles built 7-6, 12-10 and 24-21 leads but again failed to put the Hawks away. Three-straight points from the guests tied the match at 24, but AnneMarie Taggart's kill put St. Joseph's back in front, 25-24. Hunter would then respond with another 3-0 run to take the set 27-25 and pull ahead 2-1 in the match.

Hunter appeared poised to storm to victory in the fourth set and built a 20-13 lead, but the Golden Eagles fired back with a 6-0 run to draw within one point (20-19). The Hawks would regroup, though, scoring five of the next six to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.

Freshman Jenna Beekman collected a game-high 17 digs and added two service aces. Courtney Wickline's 36 assists were a team-high, as were Ferchland's 10 kills. Sophomore Claire Urizzo had seven kills and 13 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 21 when they welcome Rutgers-Newark to the Danzi Center for a 7:00 PM match. Live stats will be available here.
