Women’s Volleyball Picks Up Two Wins at Maritime

Throggs Neck, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 victories over Skyline Conference opponents SUNY Old Westbury and SUNY Maritime on the road on Sunday afternoon.

With the wins the Golden Eagles improve to 8-12 on the year and 4-2 in conference place and and sit in fourth place in the Skyline standings.

SJC 3, Old Westbury 0

The Golden Eagles took the first and third sets by 25-19 scorelines but came from behind to take the second frame, 25-23, with a set-ending 4-1 run capped off by a Claire Urizzo kill.

Urizzo led all players in the match with 16 kills and a .484 hitting percentage in addition to contributing eight digs.

Senior Morgan Tiska went for eight kills and freshman Jessica Young recorded seven.

Senior Keilly Estacuy was credited with a team-high 14 digs.

SJC 3, Maritime 0

SJC steamrolled Maritime in the first set, earning a lopsided 25-8 victory and carried that momentum into the second and third sets where 25-18 and 25-17 wins were had.

Urizzo again posted game-high numbers in the kills (11) and hitting percentage (.417) categories and also led SJC in digs (14).

Junior Kristen Bohnenblusch contributed eight kills and Tiska seven.

Junior Danielle Senecal (13) and Estacuy (12) both boasted double-digit dig figures.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, October 20 when they host Buena Vista University in a non-conference contest at 7:00 pm. Live video and stats for the match will be available here.
