Women’s Volleyball Beats Brooklyn, Loses to Buena Vista in Non-Conference Tri-Match

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team (9-13) split a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon, defeating Brooklyn College 3-1 before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Buena Vista University inside the Danzi Center.

SJC 3, Brooklyn 1

The hosts took the first set, 25-17, but Brooklyn fended off a late run buy SJC to take the second set by a score of 25-22.

St. Joseph's took a commanding 22-5 lead in the third set, and despite an 8-2 run, earned a 25-13 victory.

Brooklyn led 22-20 in the fourth frame, but SJC's 5-1 run following a timeout ended the set (25-23) and match (3-1) for the Golden Eagles.

Senior Claire Urizzo hit .280 in the match and collected a team-best 10 kills while junior Kristen Bohnenblusch and freshman Kaitlin Williams contributed eight and seven kills, respectively.

Freshman Brionna Silva dished out 25 assists and junior Danielle Senecal was credited with a team-best 25 digs.

Buena Vista 3, SJC 0

After falling 25-10 in the first set, the Golden Eagles fared better in the second and third sets, losing both by 25-14 score lines to a Buena Vista team that improved to 20-9 on the year.

SJC's offense was limited to just 20 kills in the match but was again led by Urizzo, who hit .278 and was credited with a team-best six kills.

Senior Jessica Monteserrato (14) and Senecal (12) led the team in assists and digs, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow, October 22 when they host Yeshiva University and the College of Mount St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference tri-match inside the Danzi Center at 12:00 pm. Live video and stats for all three matches will be available here.
