Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Yeshiva and Mt. St. Vincent on Sunday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 victories over conference opponents Yeshiva University and the College of Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference tri-match inside the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

The wins see the Golden Eagles improve to 11-13 on the year and 6-2 in conference, good for fourth place as of Sunday.

SJC 3, Yeshiva 0

The Golden Eagles surged to a mammoth 25-2 victory in the first and carried momentum into the second and later the third set, winning 25-17 and 25-10 victories respectively.

The SJC offense was led by freshmen Kaitlin Williams and Danielle Silkin, who both recorded a game-best eight kills.

Freshman Brionna Silva dished out a game-best 18 assists and was credited with a team-high 13 digs.

Senior Keilly Estacuy collected 11 digs.

SJC 3, Mt. St. Vincent 0

After falling behind 22-18 to the conference's only remaining undefeated team, SJC rattled off five-consecutive points to go up 23-22.

After trading points, the hosts were on the brink of being defeated (28-27) but scored the next three points to win the first set in dramatic 30-28 fashion.

Down 20-12 in the second, the Golden Eagles mounted yet another comeback and scored 14 of the final 18 points to win 26-24 and go up 2-0 in the match.

A defeated Mt. St. Vincent side struggled in the third, where SJC took advantage and surged to a 25-8 victory to complete the sweep.

Senior Claire Urizzo hit .250 in the match and put down a team-best nine kills. Williams and senior Morgan Tiska were credited with seven and six kills, respectively.

Monteserrato dished out a game-high 27 assists and Urizzo, Danielle Senecal and Kristen Bohnenblusch recorded nine digs apiece.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, October 24 when they host Albertus Magnus inside the Danzi Center at 7:00 pm for Senior Day. Follow the action with live stats here.
