Women's Volleyball Splits in Home Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches this afternoon at the Danzi Center. The Golden Eagles (1-5) took down Penn. St.-Abington (4-3) 3-0 before falling to Western Connecticut St. (5-0) 3-0.

SJC 3, PSA 0

The Golden Eagles grabbed an early match lead with a 25-18 win in set one before edging out the Nittany Lions 25-22 in set two. SJC led by as many as 10, 22-12, in set three to complete the sweep with a 25-16 win.

Sophomore Amanda Goldstein led all players with 15 kills while hitting at a .636 clip. Junior Kaitlin Williams added seven kills with six digs.

Junior Brionna Silva dished a game-high 34 assists and senior libero Danielle Senecal had a game-best 16 digs.

Katherine Costello and Jenny McAnaney led the Nittany Lions with six kills each. Setters Pam Dayley and Kaitlyn Carey-Miller recorded nine and eight assists, respectively, with libero Gaby Shreve finishing with 12 digs.

SCJ 0, WCSU 3

St. Joseph's held a lead in all three sets against the Colonials, but the visitors managed to come back all three time to sweep SJC 25-12, 25-20, 25-22.

Williams led the Golden Eagles with eight kills while scooping up five digs. Junior Jessica Young pitched in with seven kills with two block assists.

Silva tossed up 21 assists with a team-high 11 digs and two service aces.

Ali Brochu led Western Connecticut with a game-best 12 kills. Setter Rory McMaster recorded 29 assists and libero Skylar Kellam picked up 15 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 14 when they travel to face Ramapo.
