Women's Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Non-Conference Sweeps

The St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) women's volleyball team picked up a pair of non-conference sweeps over Curry College and Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon.

How it happened
  • The Golden Eagles held a slight 13-12 lead midway through the first set, but five unanswered points put SJLI ahead 18-12 and they would go on to claim the 25-19 win

  • Tied at 20 late in set two, St, Joseph's put down the next four points to go ahead 24-20. The Colonels didn't go quietly with the next three points going in their favor to close the gap to 24-23, but the final kill from freshman Nina Vanderhoof put the set away 25-23.

  • Set three was played closely early on, but the Golden Eagles pulled away midway through and cruised to a 25-15 in to complete the sweep

  • As a team, the Golden Eagles hit .202 while the Colonels finished at .079

  • SJLI served 13 aces to just two from Curry

  • Gremli finished with a match-high 15 kills and served up four aces and picked up six digs

  • Sophomore Luciana D'Ambrosio knocked down six kills on nine attempts for a .444 hitting percentage

  • Setter D'Angelo dished 22 assists while recording six digs and four aces

How it happened
  • The Golden Eagles led wire-to-wire in the opening frame grabbing an early match lead with 25-17 win in set one

  • After coming away with a 25-20 win in set two, St. Joseph's opened the third set taking the first 13 points before the Falcons got on the board. SJLI made quick work of the host taking the frame 25-11 en route to their second sweep of the day

  • St. Joseph's finished hitting .329 with the Falcons finishing at .145

  • SJLI served nine aces to just two from Albertus Magnus
