Lady Eagles Soar Over Dolphins

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount St. Vincent Dolphins (10-7) (Skyline 3-4) were no match for the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (12-5-1) (Skyline 5-2). The Eagles dominated the game early and never took their foot off of the pedal in the 5-1 victory.

St. Joseph's wasted no time getting started. Three minutes into the match, Jamianne Eden (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) intercepted a pass in the Dolphins box and beat the keeper to give the Eagles the early advantage. The Golden Eagles kept the pressure on the Mount St. Vincent defense. The Eagles leading goal scorer on the season, Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) brought down a lobbed pass from Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) and drilled the ball into the back of the net.

Sixteen of the Lady Eagles 29 shots came in the second half including one by Elizabeth Pulaski (North Babylon, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) who added to the Eagles lead just two minutes into the second half. The Dolphins finally got on the board after a scramble in the box off a corner kick led to a goal, but they still trailed 3-1. In the 70th minute, Eden stuck the dagger in the Dolphins for her second of the night. She curved a shot from outside the box that banked off the far post, deflected off of the goalkeeper, and into the net. Eden wouldn't let up as she completed the hat-trick, notching her sixth goal of the season.

Cristiana Votta (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) had a quiet night, seeing only three shots on goal. The same cannot be said for the Dolphins keeper Kelly Hilly who made 13 saves on Tuesday night, but it was the five that she couldn't stop that proved to be the difference.

Come out and see your Golden Eagles host Maritime this Saturday at 11 A.M. as they'll try to finish the Skyline season 6-2.
