Rams Narrowly Edge Eagles

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Lady Eagles (9-5, Skyline 3-2) took on Farmingdale State (7-7, Skyline 3-0) on Friday. Despite an outstanding effort by Eagles goalkeeper Cristiana Votta (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and the defense, Farmingdale found a way to get a game winner late in the game for a 1-0 victory.

Farmingdale came out firing early but the Eagles defense was up to the test. The Golden Eagles' only chance of the first half came when Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) broke down the Rams defense but blasted the shot over the crossbar. The game was scoreless at halftime. Farmingdale didn't let up in the second half. They kept threatening the Eagles goal but Votta held firm. Martino put another shot just wide of the net in the 77th minute. The Eagles' offense was slowed down but several offside calls against them in the second half. St. Joseph's did well to keep the Rams out of the box for majority of the game causing Farmingdale to improvise. In the 87th minute, Farmingdale's Ashley Appel blasted a shot past the outstretched Votta to seemingly give the Rams the victory. The Eagles had one last chance as Joann Murino (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) fired a shot that was deflected out of bounds off of Farmingdale. With just one minute remaining, the Golden Eagles took the corner but a foul in the box gave the ball back to the Rams, ending the match.

The Eagles will return home to take on Polytechnic on Sunday
