Bio

Assistant Vice President & Senior Director of Athletics & Recreation Shantey M. Hill announced the hiring of Chris Brandenberger as aquatics director and head coach of the institution's women's swimming team on September 13, 2017.

A native of Stony Brook, NY, Brandenberger arrived at St. Joseph's after most recently serving as head coach of the Fort Belvoir Swim Team in Alexandria, VA where he developed Junior Olympic qualifiers and finalists since May 2014.

Prior to his stint in Virginia, Brandenberger was interim head men's and women's swimming and diving coach at Stony Brook University from July 2012 to May 2014. Brandenberger was elevated to this position after being hired as an assistant in October 2010.

With the Stony Brook program, Brandenberger coached nine ECAC Champions, helped produce five All-America East Conference selections and claimed the 2010 ECAC women's championship in 2010.

From June 2008 to October 2010, Brandenberger was the assistant men's and women's swimming and diving coach at Iona College where he established 24 new school records and produced 11 All-Conference selections in 2009.

A collegiate standout, Brandenberger was a 13-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) finalist with the University of Maryland swimming team from 2001 to 2005. In 2004 he was an All-ACC Team selection and served as team captain in 2004 and 2005.

At Ward Melville High School, Brandenberger was a three-time National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-American and three-time New York State finalist. In 2001 he had the state's top time in the 100-yard backstroke.

Brandenberger also held assistant coach positions with West Potomac High School in Alexandria, VA (2017), Three Village Swim Club in Setauket, NY (2011-12) and the Gael Aquatic Club in New Rochelle, NY (2008-2010).

A 2006 graduate of the University of Maryland, Brandenberger earned a Bachelor's degree in English language and literature.
