Women's Tennis Seeks First Skyline Title on Saturday

Written by Joshua Soto (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I) women's tennis team enters Saturday's Skyline Conference Final with a chance to redeem themselves against the #1 seed Farmingdale St., who defeated the Golden Eagles 5-0 in last season's final.

Now, the former Skyline runner-ups, who defeated Yeshiva 5-4 in the semifinals on Wednesday, are on the cusp of winning its first Skyline Championship in program history.

The two teams faced each other in the regular season, when Farmingdale earned an 8-1 victory. Victoria Makulik and Michelle Stanczak won the only point for the Golden Eagles, picking up an 8-2 decision over Michelle Fredericks and Tatiana Rosamilia.

Victory Panicola continued her strong singles run at the #6 slot for SJC, by pushing Madison Schrader to her limit before falling 6-7(2-7), 2-6. Kelley McGrath held Fredericks to a tightly contestested game at the #3 spot, but fell just short of the victory as she lost her match via a tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-7 (3-7).

St. Joseph's will travel to Farmingdale St. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 PM, when the conference title and an automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship will be on the line. Full postgame recap will be available at sjcgoldeneagles.com
