Cross Country Topples Maritime at Friends and Alumni Meet

Sayville, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's and women's cross country teams both earned victories over SUNY Maritime at the 3rd Annual Friends and Alumni Meet ran at Broadway Ave. Park in Sayville, NY on Friday evening.

Senior Erin MacDonell placed first in the women's 4k race with a 6:15.2 average mile and a 15:32.7 final time. MacDonell was trailed by SJC alumnae Brittany Guttieri (15:51.4) and Megan Lavery (16:26.1), who took second and third, respectively.

Freshman Meagan Haviland (16:27.5), junior Abigail Lehr (17:07.0), junior Monica Grismer (17:33.4) and senior Amanda Sprague (17:34.1) rounded out the women's scoring contingent.

Maritime's Sean Hobson (20:28.4) took first in the men's 6k, but top-five finishes from junior Ryan Haun (third, 20:41.3) and senior James Dachille (fourth, 21:03.7) helped secure SJC's narrow 33-38 victory.

Alumnus Mike Lombardi placed second with a time of 20:35.8, while sophomore Tim Monahan (21:44.7), freshman Tom Newham (22:30.7) and sophomore Nick DeLuca (22:30.9) took seventh, ninth and 10th, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action next Saturday, September 9, when they head to Van Cortland Park in the Bronx for the SUNY Purchase Invitational. The women get started at 9:30 am and the men at 10:00 am.
