Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Brian Wersan – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Holbrook, NY/Sachem North HS
Wersan registered the fastest 8K time in program annals (26:10) on
Sept. 14 at the LIU Post Invitational and placed ninth
overall…was the top Division III runner…garners his
third consecutive Skyline Runner of the Week citation…the
Golden Eagles finished 8th in the 15-team
field.
Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Nick Diaz – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge HS
Diaz earns his third Skyline Rookie of the Week honor as he posted
a time of 28:18 at the LIU-Post Invitational on Sept.
14…marked the first 8K race of his career.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Brittany Guttieri – St.
Joseph's-L.I.
Sophomore, Oakdale, NY/Connetquot HS
Guttieri earned her third Skyline Runner of the Week citation of
the season as she posted a time of 19:04 at the 5K LIU Post
Invitational on Sept. 14…was the top Division III runner and
placed 11th overall…broke an SJC course record and
represented an improvement of 3:49 from a year ago for Guttieri on
the same course.
Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Kelly Roberts – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville HS
In her first collegiate 5K race on Sept. 14, Roberts recorded a
time of 21:39 at the LIU Post Invitational…SJC finished
third in the 17-team field.
Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Kevin Jardines – Mount Saint Vincent
Freshman, Forward, South Gate, CA/Cathedral HS
Jardines scored four goals on 13 shots and added a pair of assists
as Mount Saint Vincent enjoyed a 4-0 week to improve to 5-0 on the
season…his goal in the 96th minute on Sept. 14 lifted the
Dolphins past Hunter, 1-0 (OT)…also tallied the game-winner
against Sarah Lawrence on Sept. 9…notched a goal and an
assist in a 4-2 victory against Cooper Union on Sept. 15.
Men's Soccer Rookies of the Week
Adan Cruz-Velasquez – Old Westbury
Freshman, Forward, Huntington, NY/John Glenn HS
Cruz-Velasquez tallied a pair of goals – including the
game-winner – as Old Westbury earned a 4-0 victory over
Lehman on Sept. 11 in its lone contest of the
week…registered five shots in the match…has three
goals on the year.
David Melchor – Mount Saint Vincent
Freshman, Goalie, Los Angeles, CA/Cathedral HS
Melchor surrendered just one goal over four matches and notched
three shutouts as CMSV enjoyed a 4-0 week…recorded two saves
in a 1-0 (OT) win versus Hunter on Sept. 14…had multiple
saves against Sarah Lawrence (Sept. 9) and Cooper Union (Sept.
15)…earns his second Rookie of the Week honor of the
season.
Women's Soccer Players of the Week
Vanessa Cornacchio – Mount Saint Vincent
Sophomore, Forward, Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS
Cornacchio amassed four goals and two assists on six shots –
including a pair of game-winning tallies – as Mount Saint
Vincent posted victories over Lehman (5-0), Sarah Lawrence (7-0)
and St. Elizabeth (5-0)…compiled seven points with three
goals and an assist on Sept. 11 versus SLC…tallied the
game-winner versus Lehman on Sept. 14.
Shanice Robe – Mount Saint Mary
Sophomore, Forward, Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream HS
Robe netted a pair of goals on seven shots as Mount Saint Mary
edged Plattsburgh State on Sept. 14, 2-1, in the Knights' lone
match of the week…her goals came within a four-minute span
in the second half.
Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Cristiana Votta – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Sophomore, Goalie/Midfielder, East Islip, NY/East Islip
HS
Votta recorded nine saves on Sept. 14 for her third shutout of the
season as St. Joseph's-L.I. earned a 2-0 win over
Ramapo…added a goal in an 8-0 victory against York (NY) on
Sept. 10…tabbed the Skyline Rookie of the Week for the
second time this season.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Kirsten Ackerman – The Sage Colleges
Junior Renssalear, NY/Guilderland HS
Ackerman earns her second consecutive Skyline Player of the Week
honor after posting a combined 6-0 record at No. 1 singles and
doubles on the week…notched 6-0, 6-0 wins as Sage registered
victories over Castleton State (7-2) on Sept. 10 and MCLA (9-0) on
Sept. 13…earned a 6-2, 6-4 win on Sept. 14 against
Farmingdale State and an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles against the
Rams…improved to 19-1 overall in singles matches at
Sage.
Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Priscilla Signore – Farmingdale State
Freshman, Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea HS
Signore was a perfect 3-0 at the No. 2 singles flight as
Farmingdale State earned wins over Sage (7-2) and Baruch (5-4) and
was edged by the College of Staten Island (5-4)…notched
straight-set victories against Sage (6-0, 6-2) and CSI (6-0, 6-3)
and earned a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win on Sept. 13 against Baruch.
Women's Volleyball Player of the Week
Katelyn Drollette – The Sage Colleges
Junior, DS, Cadyville, NY/Saranac HS
Drollette averaged 5.87 digs over 15 sets in a 2-3 week for the
Gators…amassed 28 digs on Sept. 13 in a 3-0 win over
Bridgewater State …notched 20 digs in 3-0 setback against
Trinity on Sept. 13…compiled 19 digs on Sept. 14 in the
Gators' 3-0 loss to Western Connecticut State.
Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Alicia McCarthy - Purchase
Freshman, Outside Hitter, Plano, TX/Plano East Senior HS
McCarthy registered 16 kills on Sept. 10 as Purchase earned a 3-0
win over John Jay…compiled 17 kills in the Panthers' 3-2
loss to the College of New Rochelle on Sept. 12…also
averaged 2.5 digs over eight sets with an attack percentage of
.348.
