Women's Volleyball Players of the Week
Heather Ferchland – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Junior, Middle Hitter, Selden, NY/Centereach HS

Ferchland averaged 2.68 kills and 0.96 blocks over 28 sets as St. Joseph's-L.I. won five of its first eight matches…notched double-digit kills four times thus far in 2014, including 18 kills on Aug. 30 in a 3-2 win over Keystone…was named to the all-tournament team at the Scranton Invitational. 

Rachel Martin - Sage
Senior, Middle Hitter, Troy, NY/Troy HS

Martin averaged 2.32 kills over 11 sets with a .288 attack percentage as Sage posted a 7-4 record to begin its 2014 campaign…leads the Gators with 23 blocks…tabbed the Most Valuable Player of the Best Western/Ground Round Cardinal Classic at Plattsburgh State (Sept. 12-13) as Sage earned wins over Plattsburgh State (3-1), Bridgewater State (3-1) and Elms (3-0)…Martin compiled 26 kills in the three victories.  

Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Chelsea Barberan – Mount Saint Mary
Freshman, Libero, Fishkill, NY/John Jay HS

Barberan averaged 4.50 digs over 40 sets and 11 matches…amassed 36 digs on Aug. 30 in a 3-1 loss to Hartwick…also averaged 0.40 assists and 0.20 service aces per set. 

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Brian Wersan – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Holbrook, NY/Sachem North HS

Wersan established a program record at the Stony Brook Invitational on Aug. 30 with a time of 19:49 on the 5.9K course…finished 12th overall (16:21) on Sept. 7 at the St. John's 5K Invitational…posted a time of 26:15 on the 8K course for a 15th place finish at the LIU Post Invitational on Sept. 13 to remain undefeated against Division III competition in 2014.  

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Nick Morfesi – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, West Babylon, NY/West Babylon HS

Morfesi posted a time of 27:59 on the 8K course at the LIU Post Invitational on Sept. 13 as St. Joseph's-L.I. finished eighth out of 14 teams in a field that included several Division I and II programs…placed 34th at the Stony Brook Invitational (20:54) on Aug. 30 on the 5.9K course…recorded a time of 17:24 on the 5K course on Sept. 7 at the St. John's Invitational.

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Lauren Waka – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North HS

Waka is undefeated against Division III competition thru three meets this season after registering 5K times of 19:37 at the LIU Post Invitational (Sept. 13) and 20:17 at the St. John's Invitational (Sept. 7)…finished ninth overall at St. John's…added a time of 16:55 on Aug. 30 at the 4.1K Stony Brook Invitational.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Lyndsey Pere - Yeshiva
Sophomore, West Hempstead, NY/HANC HS

Pere placed eighth overall in a field of 115 runners on Sept. 14 at the Queensborough C.C. Invitational with a time of 22:31 on the 5K course as Yeshiva finished first in the 14-team field…recorded a time of 28:33 on Sept. 7 at the 6K Baruch Invitational to place 10th overall in a field of 85 runners.
