Baseball Explodes for 19 Hits in 19-3 Win Over John Jay

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team took down John Jay College 19-3 in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon at Gregg Alfano Field.

The Golden Eagles improve to 4-7 on the season and the Bloodhounds slide to 1-7.

John Jay was quick to get on the board with a three-run top of the first. Sean Napier started the game with a base hit up the middle and two batters later Brian Garcia reached on a hit to right. Ryan Osborne followed with a 2 RBI triple to right plating both Napier and Garcia. William De La Cruz sent a sacrifice fly to center for the third run of the inning.

The Golden Eagles put up a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning when senior Lou Doria knocked in junior Anthony Raucci who led off with double to right.

After a scoreless second inning, SJC erupted for 12 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the third. Senior Dylan Piscitelli and junior Dan Campanelli both had two hits in the inning combining for seven RBI's. Junior Tyler Sanderson pitched in with a 2 RBI triple to center with junior Gehrig Montoro adding double to center bringing in Vincent Biordi and Sanderson.

Ahead 13-3, junior Paul Britt, Doria and Piscitelli all provided RBI's in the bottom of the fourth for a 16-3 lead. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Montoro in the fifth and a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh moved the game to its final 19-3.

Piscitelli and Sanderson led the Golden Eagles at the plate belting three hits apiece with five and two RBI's, respectively. Raucci, Louis Fontinha, Britt, and Campinelli all finished with two hits.

Napier and Ryan Osbourne each recorded a pair of hits for the Bloodhounds.

Five Golden Eagles saw time on the mound with senior PJ Martino picking up the win allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings.

John Jay's starter Joe Gregory was tagged with the loss allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings of work.

SJC returns to action when they travel to Lehman College Wednesday, March 21. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
