Women’s XC Wins St. Joseph’s Invitational, Men Take Fourth

Kings Park, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's cross country team placed first and the men's cross country team claimed fourth at the annual St. Joseph's Invitational held at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, NY on Saturday afternoon. The event precedes the the Skyline Conference Championships, which take place next Sunday, October 25, at Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, NY.

The women, who have earned three first-place finishes in a row, were led by the foursome of Katie Scharrenbroich (21:06.5), Samantha Maurice (21:09.0), Brittany Guttieri (21:21.4) and Erin MacDonell (21:22.6), who finished seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th.

Junior Megan Lavery rounded out the St. Joseph's top-five in the 5k race with a time of 21:45.6 and a 19th place finish. The Golden Eagles' 51 points bested Suffolk County CC, who finished second with 93 points, and third place Monroe College (110 points).

Senior Mike LoSchiavo (28:19.5) and freshman Ryan Haun (28:22.5) placed fourth and fifth in the men's 8k race and were topped only by Monroe's Mpho Makofane and the USMMA duo of Connor Cole and Daniel Wolfer.

Junior Nick Diaz (29:39.0) earned a 16th place finish and fellow classman Tim Elgort (31:43.7) finished 48th. Senior John Suchopar's (33:02.1) 69th place finish ensured the Golden Eagles would earn fourth place with a score of 133.
