Iavarone Powers Women's Basketball to 54-36 win over Yeshiva

Patchogue, NY| Junior Andrea Iavarone scored 26 points to lift the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team to a 54-36 victory over Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference matchup inside the Danzi Center.  The Golden Eagles improve to 2-2 (1-0 Skyline), while the Maccabees slide to 2-2 (0-1 Skyline).

Yeshiva would get on the board first courtesy of a Simee Rosner jump shot a minute into the game. Down 4-0, a made jumper by Jackie Zizzo would spark a 14-1 run to put the Golden Eagles up 14-5 at the 2:25 mark. The two teams would trade baskets until the end of the first quarter with SJC leading by eight (16-8).

Two free throws by Iavarone would give the Golden Eagles a 10-point lead at 8:57, but Yeshiva responded with a 6-0 run to close the gap to four (20-16) with 3:52 in the second frame. Iavarone closed out the quarter scoring the final five points for SJC to give the Blue and Gold a seven-point advantage (25-18) at the break.
The Maccabees started the third with a 5-2 run to comeback within four at the 8:50 mark, but the Golden Eagles took a 9-4 run until the end of the third quarter to extend their lead to 10 (36-26).

Michal Alge hit the first layup of the final quarter to pull Yeshiva within eight points, but the Golden Eagles would then score seven points in the next minute to hold a 43-28 lead two minutes into the quarter. With 2:38 remaining in the match, SJC would hold its largest lead (49-29) before earning the 54-36 win.

Iavarone led the game in scoring with 26 points in addition to adding 20 rebounds and a block. Zizzo made a defensive presence with four steal on the contest and tallied 10 points.
The Golden Eagles shot just 36.8% from the field compared to Yeshiva's 17.8%, but The Maccabees held the advantage in rebounds (55-48).
