Women's Lacrosse Suffers Loss to USMMA, 12-8

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team suffered a 12-8 Skyline Conference loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium.

The Golden Eagles slide to 5-7 on the season, 3-2 in Skyline play. The Mariners improve to 10-2 overall and remain unbeaten, 5-0, in Skyline action.

St. Joseph's opened the scoring with a goal from Lauryn Gregson less than a minute into the game. Gregson struck again a minute later with a free position goal. The two sides exchanged goal and with just over eight minutes left in the half, USMMA's Jessica Reilly tied the game at four. Nicole Stoppelli dished a pass to Ally Johnston putting SJC back on top, 5-4. Back-to-back goals from Kristi Carroll moved the score to 7-4 before USMMA's Meredith Willard's goal closed out that half with SJC ahead 7-5.

The Merchant Marines started the second half on a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 advantage. Alexis Hillman connected with Stoppelli midway through the half to close the gap to just two, 10-8, but the Mariners tacked on some insurance with a couple goals down the stretch to come away with the 12-8 win.

Gregson, Carroll, and Stoppelli finished with two goals apiece. Carroll and Stoppelli combined for ten draw controls with three caused turnovers apiece.

Goalkeeper Lindsay Ramos finished with six saves on the day.

The Golden Eagles return to Skyline Conference play when they travel to Old Westbury on Tuesday, April 24. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
