Women’s Volleyball Looks to Upset Top-Seeded CMSV in Skyline Semis

Written by Andrew Capitelli (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Riverdale, NY| The #4 St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team (17-15, 8-2 Skyline) will head to the Bronx on Thursday evening with the intentions of knocking off the top-seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent (15-13, 9-1 Skyline) in the Skyline Conference semifinals.

The match, which is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 PM inside the Sharp Center, is the second meeting of the season between the two sides. The Golden Eagles topped the Dolphins 3-2 in a  five-set thriller back on Saturday, October 3.

SJC's Heather Ferchland and CMSV's Ashleigh Scozzari each went for 21 kills in a showdown of the conference's best. On Thursday, the performances Ferchland and Scozzari will likely determine which side plays for a Skyline championship on Saturday.

St. Joseph's dismissed Farmingdale State College 3-0 in the first round on Tuesday evening to advance to the semifinals. Ferchland registered a game-high 11 kills in the win, while Jenna Beekman (15) and Courtney Wickline (29) had a game-bests in digs and assists.

The Dolphins earned a bye in the first round of the playoffs and were last in action on Saturday, October 31 when they swept both Purchase and Maritime in a Skyline tri-match at home.

The winner of Thursday's match will face the winner of the other semifinal, #2 Sage vs. #3 Mt. St. Mary, in Saturday's final. The Golden Eagles suffered their only two Skyline losses of the season to both the Gators and the Knights.
