Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped a 70-37 decision to Mount St. Mary College in the squad's Skyline Conference opener on the road on Tuesday evening.
With the loss the Golden Eagles slip to 2-3 on the year (0-1 Skyline) as the Knights improve to 2-3 (1-0 Skyline).
Freshman Jami Cardenas led the SJC offense with a team-best 11 points on 3-for-13 shooting from the field. Fellow freshman Lindsey McKenna shot 3-for-6 and registered eight points.
Senior Andrea Iavarone (1-for-8) and juniors Alicia Indence (2-for-9) and N'Dea Maddox (2-for-10) all contributed six points apiece.
Mount St. Mary's Jessica Rini led all players with 14 points on 7-for-13 shooting.
In a contest that saw zero lead changes, SJC shot 19.6% from the floor but held a slim margin from beyond the arc (21.1%-20.0%).
The Knights dominated the paint, grabbing 62 rebounds to SJC's 32 and outscoring the guests 34-6 in the key.
