Women's Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-4 loss at the hands of #25 Stevens Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon at Danzi Stadium.

The Golden Eagles begin their 2018 campaign at 0-1 and the Ducks start off at 1-0.

The two teams traded goals off the start as Stevens' Brianne Salera put away a feed from Kyra Bednarski less than a minute into the game. Just over a minute later, senior Kristin Carroll answered with her first goal of the season courtesy of a free-position opportunity. The Ducks strung together three unanswered goals before junior Nicole Stoppelli capitalized on her free-position opportunity to cut the deficit to 4-2. Stevens went on for three more goals to head into the break leading 7-2.

Stoppelli notched her second free-position goal to start the second half, but the Ducks quickly came back with two scores of their own moving the score to 9-3. SJC's final goal of the game came from sophomore Diana Johnston when she took a pass from Stoppelli and found the back of the net with just over 20 minutes left on the clock. It was all Stevens from there as they tacked on six goals to bring the game to its final 15-4.

Stoppelli led SJC with two goals and an assist. Carroll added a goal four draw controls, two caused turnovers and two groundballs.  Johnston, D. finished with a goal and a game-high six draw controls.
