Eagles Outswim Old Westbury Panthers in Narrow Victory

Old Westbury, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles took down Old Westbury, 98-87, on Tuesday night in a Skyline Conference swim meet as St. Joseph's took first place in seven of the eleven events.

The first event of the night was the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The Eagles dominated the event by over sixteen seconds, taking eleven of the fifteen points.  Kim Mazza (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) outswam her Old Westbury opponent by 9.23 seconds to lead the Eagles to victory. The Panthers pulled off a win in the 1000-Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Freestyle.

Lorena Patrizia Waters (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) took first place in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 27.74. Janece Guerra (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./St. Anthony's) beat out her opponent by ten seconds in the 200-Yard IM. Old Westbury also took first place in the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly and the 100-Yard Freestyle. Taylor Buckley (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) had already dried off when her opponents finished the 100-Yard Backstroke over 25 seconds behind her.

Melissa Nocco (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and Kimberly Mazza took first and second, respectively, in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Janece Guerra got to the finish line first for the second time on the night. She narrowly beat out her opponent by less than a second.

The 200-Yard Freestyle Relay was the last event of the night and the Eagles finished ten seconds before the Panthers. Buckley and Lauren Ouzounian (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) led their team to victory as Buckley gave the Eagles a nine second lead that was cut down to two when Ouzounian jumped in the water. She outswam the opposition by eight seconds to give the Golden Eagles the win.

The Lady Eagles have their first and only home competition of the season on November 23rd at 3:00 p.m. against William Patterson.
