Track and Field Continues Record Breaking Streak at Spring Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) track and field teams kicked off their spring season with momentum as both the men and women finished off the day with positive results as they hosted the Spring Opener on Saturday afternoon.

On the women's side the team of Ashley Arquer, Jennifer Holownia, Cassandra Costarelli, and  Jessica Pierno broke the school record in the 4x100 relay with a third-place 52.91 finish.

In the 4x 800-Meter relay the Golden Eagles finished in the top two of the race. Samantha Maurice, Kelly Roberts, Taylor Darby, and Brittany Guttieri crossed the tape with a 10:37.29 first place time. Monica Grismer, Kaitlin Gallagher, Marissa LoSchiavo, and Abigail Lehr came across just behind them for the second place finish.

Holownia, Cetta, Arquer, and Schrepf saw another first place finish in the sprint medley relay with a 4:38.49 time.

Breaking another seven-year school record was Roberts, Darby, Maurice, and Costarelli with a first place finish of 13:48.75.

Arquer beats her personal-best, a school-record, earning gold in the long jump leaping to a 4.93m distance.

Monica Grismer and Marissa LoSchiavo both placed first and second, respectively, in the 3000 steeplechase.

Pierno shattered the program's record in the triple jump with a 10.59 meter jump, earning her first place honors.

For the men, in the 4x100-meter relay Brian Frejka, Mike O'Shea, Daniel Antonawich, Nicholas Giorgio earned a fourth-place time of 46.32.

The team of Frejka, O'Shea, Russo, and Antonawich cross the finish line in the 4 x 400 relay with a third-place time of 3:37.95. They would also place first in the sprint medley relay with a finish of 3:57.91.

The Golden Eagles will head back to the track on April 1 for the Ramapo Invitational at Ramapo College at 3:00 PM.
