
Britt and Murphy Named to ABCA/Rawlings New York All-Region Teams
Greensboro, NC| Junior first baseman Paul Britt and junior pitcher Joseph Murphy of the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team garnered American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-New York Region honors on Tuesday afternoon. Britt lands on the First-Team just a day after picking up D3baseball.com All-New York Third-Team honors while Murphy was named to the Second-Team.
Britt, a Skyline All-Conference First-Team selection led the conference in batting average (.413), slugging percentage (.754), runs scored (39), triples (6) and home runs (7) prior at the conclusion of SJC's Skyline Conference championship run. The Cortland transfer was also second in hits (52), third in on-base percentage (.507) and fourth in RBI's (35).
Following the team's NCAA New York Regional appearance from May 17-19, the Commack, NY native wrapped the season with a .404 batting average, a .752 slugging percentage, a .491 on-base percentage, 37 RBI's, 11 doubles, seven triples and eight home runs. Britt's 106 total bases and seven triples set new SJC single-season records.
Murphy led the Golden Eagles with a 6-1 record, 58 innings pitched and 54 strikeouts. The Farmingville, NY native averaged 8.38 strikeouts per game and finished a 2.17 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a stingy .235 batting average.
In his final appearance of the 2018 season, the junior fanned eight batters in a complete-game effort to lift the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 victory over Amherst at the NCAA New York Regional.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.
