Zac Campanelli Leads Golf Team at Skidmore Invitational
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - The men's golf team did very well this weekend at Skidmore College's Dr. Tim Brown Invitational at Airway Meadows Golf Club led by an outstanding performance from sophomore Zac Campanelli on day two of the event.
Campanelli posted a personal best two-day total of 156 which was good for ninth place out of 60 players under extremely difficult course conditions.
The weather and conditions on the course were challenging with rain and temperatures in the low 60's/high 50's on day one, followed by 30 mph winds on day two as the front passed through.
The Eagles posted a fantastic day one team total of 314 - placing St Joseph's fourth behind three NCAA Division III tournament teams - Skidmore (299), Salem State (310), and nationally ranked-Hamilton (312).
St Joseph's team scoring:
Christian Bleck 76 81 157
Robbie Bray 75 85 160
Zac Campanelli 79 77 156
Tim Erath 84 83 167
Brian Daponte 88 97 185
Total 314 326 640 +64 for two day total
The +64 total placed the Golden Eagles tied for fifth place with SUNY Delhi & SUNY Cobbleskill, both very competitive and skilled teams.
The day one total of 314 was only six strokes off the team school record of 308 posted by the NCAA tournament qualifying and Skyline Conference championship team of 2007.
The future looks good for the team as well as the individuals who participated in this tournament. Both Christian Bleck and Robbie Bray were among the top five finishers on day one posting scores of 76 and 75, respectively.
