Brust Named Defensive Player of the Year, Five Others on Men's Lax All-Conference Teams

Skyline Release

New York, NY| Senior Andrew Brust was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season and Tom Rotanz was named Coach of the Year when the Skyline Conference released its end-of-season men's lacrosse awards on Monday morning.

Additionally, junior Jack Gilbride joined Brust on the Skyline All-Conference First-Team while senior Tim McCann, sophomore Michael Carere, and freshmen Nik Allen and Anthony Dibene graced the Second-Team.

Brust's second Defensive Player of the Year selection comes on the heels of a season in which the goaltender finished second in the conference in save percentage, third in saves-per-game, and fourth in total saves and goals-against average. The 2021 All-American posted a career- and conference-best 27 saves against Kean on April 6.

Gilbride collects his second First-Team selection in 2022 after finishing third in the conference in points and points-per-game, third in goals-per-game, and fourth in goals, assists-per-game, shots, and shots-per-game. Gilbride was a three-time Weekly Honor Roll honoree this year.

McCann is an All-Conference recipient for the first time in his career and graduates as the program's all-time leading goal scorer (73). The Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Week on April 19, McCann finished fifth in the conference in assists-per-game and shots-per-game, sixth in assists, and seventh in points-per-game.

Midfielder Carere was second in the conference in total ground balls and ground balls-per-game and fourth in faceoff percentage. He's a Second-Team selection in his first season with SJLI.

Allen was the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on March 8 and SJLI's only defender honored. He was ninth in the conference in ground balls-per-game and 10th in total ground balls.

Dibene was the conference's second-best faceoff man with a percentage of 63%. The freshman Second-Team selection also scooped up 65 ground balls this season.

Rotanz guided SJLI to a 7-7 season and their third playoff appearance in 2022. Rotanz was named the program's first-ever coach in 2016 and posted 33 wins in 64 games. He announced his intention to retire prior to the Golden Eagles' 8-7 loss to USMMA on April 30.
