The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's soccer team defeated SUNY Potsdam, 3-1, in a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Top performers
- Sophomore Vincent Mariani opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season
- Senior Anthony Guzzone scored his second goal in three games and freshman Sean Gordon tallied his first career goal
- Freshman Nick Pensavalle assisted on Mariani and Gordon's goals
- Sophomore keeper Josh Lehr played all 90 minutes and made eight saves on nine shots on goal
How it happened
- After a scoreless first half Mariani opened the scoring in the 48th minute (1-0)
- Potsdam answered immediately via Anderson Velasquez 13 seconds later (1-1)
- Goden put the hosts ahead again in the 53rd minute when he pounced on a loose ball in the Potsdam box (2-1)
- Guzzone capped off the afternoon's scoring in the 67th minute when he finished from the right with his left foot (3-1)
Notes
- Pensavalle's two assists bring his season total to three. The forward has five points in three games
- SJNY was outshot 23-13 in the match
- Diego Saravia's first point of the season came as an assist on Guzzone's goal
