After Falling Behind Early, Lady Eagles Can’t Swim with Dolphins

Bronxville, N.Y. – The Lady Eagles (10-6, 3-2 Skyline) lost game one 11-7 to the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins (7-2, 3-2 Skyline) and hoped to bounce back in the second game but game two was rained out.

The Eagles put together a two-out rally in the first when Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) walked, stole second and was driven in on a single by Melanie Boccio (Manorville, N.Y./-Eastport-South Manor).  But the Dolphins came right back in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run bomb to centerfield.  Boccio stepped up to the plate again in the top of the third and with a runner on base, hit the ball out of the park to tie the game at 3-3.

Just as they did in the first inning, the Dolphins wasted no time avenging the Eagles rally with another three-run homer. In the fourth, the Eagles kept fighting their way back into the game as Lindsey Corriss (Sayville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) doubled with two outs and was driven home by a Samantha Carcano  (Centereach, N.Y./Newfield) single.  Pinch-hitter Gabrielle Cinquemani (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), tripled bringing Carcano home and once again cutting the deficit down to one.

The Dolphins once again, refused to let the Eagles hang around for long as Mackenzie Heizer hit her second three-run shot on the day. Boccio tried to rally her team again in the fifth with a solo shot but another Dolphins homer took the air out of any Eagles rally. Megan Leun (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) hit a solo-home run in the 7th but the Eagles ran out of time to fight their way back into the game.

Carcano went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Boccio had a monster game for the Lady Eagles going 3-4 with 4 RBI's, two runs scored and two home runs. Corriss went 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Cassie Martinez (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) had a rough outing surrendering nine earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Lady Eagles travel to Drew this Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader.
