Tierney and Boccio Named to 2014 All-Skyline Softball Team

2014 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

New York, N.Y. – Senior shortstop Hillary Faas of Sage has been named the 2014 Skyline Softball Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's eight head coaches. 

The Skyline coaches also selected Mackenzie Heizer of Mount Saint Vincent as Pitcher of the Year, Farmingdale State's Lori Michalowski as Rookie of the Year and Mark Roldan of Mount Saint Vincent as Coach of the Year.

Faas leads the conference with a program-record 45 RBI, shares the league-lead with 60 hits and ranks second in both batting average (.476) and total bases (94).  A two-time Player of the Week selection this season, the East Greenbush, N.Y., native boasts a .746 slugging percentage, 19 multi-hit performances and hit a blistering .580 with four home runs in Skyline play. 

Michalowski is batting .432 with nine doubles and 18 RBI in 30 games for the Rams, who earned their fourth consecutive Skyline Championship and NCAA Tournament berth.  The Lindenhurst, N.Y., resident has compiled 15 runs scored, three home runs and a .462 on-base percentage.  A freshman first baseman, Michalowski also earned first-team All-Conference distinction.  

A one-time Pitcher of the Week and one-time Rookie of the Week selection, Heizer has amassed a 10-2 record with a 2.03 earned run average and 11 complete games.  The freshman righthander from Vacaville, Calif., leads the Skyline with 144 strikeouts in 96.2 innings pitched and has limited opposing hitters to a league-best .196 batting average.  Heizer has notched four shutouts and a pair saves in 19 appearances this season.

Faas, Michalowski and Heizer are joined on the All-Conference first-team by Ashley Peel, Shannon Sommer and Danielle Soto of Mount Saint Mary; Farmingdale State's Meagan Anderson Hillary Genova, Andrea Klarman and Michelle Mongiello; Katie Kovage of Sage; Old Westbury's Jennifer Jean; Julianne Tierney of St. Joseph's-L.I.; and Mount Saint Vincent's Kathleen Davis. 

The second-team All-Conference includes Karina Amaro, Christi Bruin and Valerie Schwein of NYU-Poly; Mount Saint Vincent's Brittany Lee and Danielle Maffei; Kristen Beikirch of Sage; Old Westbury's Alexis Ferrero; Victoria Goldbach, Sabrina Gordek and Stephanie Karcher of Mount Saint Mary; Melanie Boccio of St. Joseph's-L.I.; and ToniAnn Licata of Purchase.

In his first season at Mount Saint Vincent, Roldan guided the Dolphins to a 28-7 overall record, including a 9-5 mark in conference play and the program's first appearance in the Skyline Championship since the 2008 campaign.  Roldan is a 1990 graduate of Pace University.
