Women’s Basketball Ends Skid with 62-61 Win over Yeshiva

Patchogue, NY| Senior Alicia Indence's game-winning three-pointer with 4.9 seconds remaining in regulation fired the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team to a 62-61 victory over Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference contest inside the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

The win snaps the Golden Eagles' 10-game losing streak and sees them improve to 3-15 on the year and 2-9 in Skyline Conference play. The Maccabees slip to 6-10 (3-7 Skyline) overall.

Freshman Alyssa Signor led an SJC offense that scored three players in double figures with a game-high 22 points. The guard was also credited with a game-best four steals.

Junior Laura Falacara contributed a career-high 15 points off the bench and Indence scored 12 points and dished out three assists. Junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds and scored nine points.

Yeshiva was led by Michal Alge, who scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 20 rebounds.

Despite there being eight lead changes and eight ties in the contest, SJC led for much of the first quarter and all of the second and third quarters. After leading 46-41 at the end of the third, the Golden Eagles fell behind 57-55 with just 2:40 to play in regulation.

With 52 seconds left, Signor brought SJC back to within one (60-59), but after an Alge free throw 28 seconds later, the hosts were tasked with a two-point deficit. After a timeout, Falacara found Indence in the corner and the guard drained the game-winner with just 4.9 seconds on the clock.

SJC shot a game-best 33.3% from the field but was outrebounded (54-46) and outscored in the paint (28-24). Both teams found 15 points apiece off the bench.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 29 when they visit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a Skyline Conference contest at 5:30 pm.
