Women's Basketball Outpaced by Old Westbury

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team dropped an 81-66 Skyline Conference contest to SUNY Old Westbury Thursday evening at the Danzi Center.

The Golden Eagles move to 3-17 on the season with a 2-11 conference mark. The Panthers improve to 16-4, 9-4 Skyline.

SJC's Alyssa Signor led all players on the court with 28 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field. The freshman also contributed a team-best five assists with four steals and four rebounds.

Junior Juliana Cintron-Leonardo knocked down 16 points with a team-leading nine rebounds. Senior Alicia Indence rounded out the top-scorers with 11 points.

Alexis Lopez and Paige Jelinek led the Panthers with 21 points apiece. Jelinek completed the double-double with 11 boards.

Old Westbury's Davida Jones recorded a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tori Billings dished a game-high 13 assists.

In a contest that saw six lead changes, the Golden Eagles created their largest margin, 21-13, with just under a minute to play in the first quarter. But after closing the opening frame with back-to-back layups, the visitors opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run jumping ahead 27-21. The Panthers maintained momentum throughout the quarter and went into halftime leading 39-27.

The third quarter saw Old Westbury jump to their largest lead, 52-33, and the Panthers would hold on for an 81-66 final.

OW finished shooting 50.7% from the field with SJC knocking down 39.3%. While the Golden Eagles were slightly better from three-point range, 33.3% to 29.4%, the Panthers held a 52-22 margin in the paint.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Saturday, February 2 when they host the College of Mt. St. Vincent. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
