Eagles Clip Fighting Blue Jays, 3-0

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's women's soccer team (8-3-2, Skyline 3-1) shutout the Fighting Blue Jays of NYU-Polytechnic (1-7-1, Skyline 0-3), 3-0 to move into a three-way tie for second place. The win comes after a recent, 1-0, loss to first place Mount Saint Mary (8-2-1, Skyline 3-0).

The Lady Eagles got on the board early with a goal, from freshman midfielder Lauren Heschl (Medford, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist), 6:48 into the game. Eleven minutes later junior Samantha Garcia (Central Islip, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) netted a one-timer from forward Bethany Bianco (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon). Sophomore forward Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport) gave St. Joseph's an insurance goal going into the half off a give-and-go with senior Michelle Barclay (Holbrook, N.Y. / Sachem North).

NYU-Poly couldn't get past the stifling defense of the Golden Eagles and managed just one shot on goal. Strong play from defenders Ashley George (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Islip), Nicole Lyman (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon), and Jacalyn Baratelli (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) helped goalie Kayla Flowers (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) record her seventh shutout of the season.

The next game for St. Joseph's is Saturday, October 6, at home against conference-foe, Purchase State (5-5, Skyline 3-1) starting at 1:00 p.m.. Last season the Eagle blanked the Panthers with a 2-0 victory.
