Purchase Stifles Eagles Offense to Earn Upset Win

Patchogue, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's Lady Eagles (8-4-2, 3-2 SKY) couldn't find the back of the net on Saturday in their match against the Purchase Panthers (6-5, 4-1 SKY). Even after 16 shots, including six on goal, SJC fell to Purchase in a crushing 1-0 loss that knocked them back into second place in the Skyline Conference.

The game was incontrovertibly physical; by only the 18th minute Purchase had already committed five fouls. It was at 18:17 that the Panthers scored the first and only goal of the game as forward Cat Viscardi sent one home off of a cross from Amanda Maertz.

Although St. Joseph's possessions proved to be unproductive, the Eagles did control the ball for the nearly the entire game. SJC was successful in keeping the game on the offensive end of the field and, subsequently, keeping Purchase goalie, Kristy Colangelo, on her toes.

Jamianne Eden (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./ Connetquot) had four shots and two shots on goal while Samantha Garcia (Central Islip, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) and Bethany Bianco (West Babylon, N.Y./ West Babylon) each finished with three shots. Defender Nicole Lyman (West Babylon, N.Y./ West Babylon) also got in on the action with two shots and a shot on goal.

The Lady Eagles will next return to the field in a 4 p.m. Columbus Day match on Monday at New York University.
