Lorraine Podlesny Named Skyline Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year; 3 Land on All-Conference Teams
New York, NY| Freshman Lorraine Podlesny of the St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's tennis team was named Rookie of the Year when the Skyline Conference released its end-of-season awards on Tuesday morning.
Junior Madison DiPalo joined Podlesny on the All-Conference First-Team and junior Haley Celona graced the Second-Team.
Podlesny--who was also on the All-Sportsmanship Team--went 6-1 in singles play and 5-2 in doubles action during the regular season, leading SJNY to a second-place finish.
DiPalo was 7-2 in singles and 8-2 in doubles, boasting an impressive 7-1 mark at second doubles. She was a perfect 5-0 at third singles.
Celona had a 6-4 singles record having featured at second, third, fourth, and fifth singles during the course of the sason. She played nine matches at second doubles and posted an 8-1 record.
The Golden Eagles posted a 5-1 Skyline record during the regular season and qualified for the playoffs as the second seed. After toppling Purchase, 5-2, in the semifinal round, St. Joseph's was defeated, 5-1, by top-seeded Farmingdale in the final.
