Cross Country Opens 2018 Season with 4th Annual Friends and Alumni Meet

Sayville, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams opened their 2018 campaign at the 4th Annual Friends and Alumni Meet at Broadway Ave. Park on Friday evening.

The women, led by sophomore Megan Haviland, placed second in a field of three teams while the men finished third in a field of four.

Haviland took second with a time of 16:12.1 and finished behind SJC alumnus Brittany Guttieri, who won the race (16:00.4).

Sophomore Cassidy Jacobus checked in at eighth place (17:14.2), and junior Karli Murphy (17:30.4) and freshmen Sandra Vivar Marin (17:41.0) and Caleigh Capek (17:59.6) placed 11th, 12th and 13th.

On the men's side, sophomore Tom Newham powered SJC with an eighth-place finish. Junior Nick Deluca (21:55.) came in 12th and freshman Dennis O'Rourke placed 16th (22:16.1)

SJC alumni Brian Wersan (20:21.1) and Mike Lombardi (20:36.8) took second and third.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 8 when they participate in the Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.
