
Cross Country Participates at the Fordham Fiasco
Bronx, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams participated in Saturday's annual Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx and picked up 10th- and 11th-place finishes, respectively.
Led by sophomore Meagan Haviland, who was the highest-placing runner outside of the competing Division I schools, the women's team finished ahead of Division III counterparts Montclair State and the College of Mount St. Vincent. Haviland's 5k time of 20:59.7 was good for 40th place in a field of 124.
Sophomore Cassidy Jacobus (22:24.2) and freshman Sandra Vivar Marin (22:40.7) took 65th and 72nd, respectively, and freshmen Caleigh Capek (23:28.6) and Sarah Dern (23:40.3) rounded out the SJC scoring contingent in 81st and 84th.
Top runner of the men's team was junior Nick DeLuca (29:47.3) who took 79th place. Sophomore Thomas Newham (30:51.8) finished 88th and freshman Dennis O'Rourke (31:09.5) was 90th.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 22 when they compete at the Bard College Invitational in Annandale, NY.
